"Wheel of change"

Bonjour everyone!

I wanted to share some images and info with you about this new series of paper wall sculptures I am working on, called “The wheel of change”.

Recycling doesn’t have to only be an accumulation of trash.

With the help of artisanal techniques and gestures we can create visually pleasing and aesthetic pieces we are unfortunately “forced” to throw away even if it is totally reusable.

The work on recycling was quite a struggle at  first for me because I wished to conciliate things close to my heart and connect them in a consistent way.

After lots of experimentation, mistakes, failed trials and research my stubborn mind who knew there was probably a way to directly integrate nature to my paper work finally found a way!

I dreamt for months to be able to create my own pigments. Of course I tested to make watercolours from them and the results were rather “interesting” (meaning the texture was quite different from the ones bought in art stores, but I will cope with it for now) and  just like each time things don’t turn like I expected, I didn’t let this put me down because I know from experience it is at this exact moment I will enjoy the process the most, it is a big stimulation for my creativity.

I am a problem solver and I can’t help it.

I will explore new paths I wouldn’t have thought otherwise to obtain these really unique results.

During my attempts at pigment making some were so bright I knew they wouldn’t work well as watercolour. And coincidentally at the same moment I was starting to feel unhappy with the grey colour of some of my paper sculptures. The light wouldn’t reveal all the details, at least not according to my tastes.

That’s how I decided to give a go at combining my bright handmade painting with my papier maché creations.

I was very pleased with the first results and very inspired to keep creating this new series of poetic, floral wall sculptures creating a conversation between recycling and nature.

All these art pieces with various colours made from paper waste and botanical paintings will be available on my website in September. Until then I will keep sharing with you the different steps of the process and would be more than happy to answer any of your questions!
